The ELEMENT of Shape
SHAPE . . .
Shapes are flat and have height and width. Shapes are two dimensional with no thickness or form. Shapes come in two main categories; geometric (circle, square, triangle, rectangle) or organic/free form (those found in nature).

The element of form
FORM . . .
Forms are three dimensional objects that have thickness and volume. Forms like shapes are grouped into categories and have specific names like cube, prism, sphere, etc. Forms on a two dimensional surface give the illusion of 3 dimension. Forms are created with the use linear perspective and shading techniques. Forms may be viewed from many different angles. Perspective terms like horizon line, vanishing point and convergence lines assist the artist with their creation.
